Fourth-ranked Clayton Valley Charter (4-1) likely pushed itself back into serious contention for an Open Division berth in the North Coast Section playoffs after coasting past Canyon Springs (1-3). Clayton Valley’s next five games are against Diablo Foothill Athletic League opponents. … No. 5 Pittsburg (4-2, 1-0 Bay Valley Athletic League) beat Heritage (1-5, 0-1) 66-14. The Pirates were ahead 31-0 after one quarter and 52-0 at the half. “We did what we were supposed to do,” Pittsburg coach Victor Galli said. “They’re very young and we have a lot of seniors.” Pittsburg remains in the running for an Open Division berth. … Las Lomas pitched its third straight shutout while rolling past College Park 42-0 in a Diablo Foothill Athletic League Valley Division contest. For the first time in three weeks, No. 17 Las Lomas (6-0, 2-0) had to sweat in the first half. After taking a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter, College Park (2-4, 0-2) drove inside the red zone before turning the ball over on downs. The Knights then took over and led 28-0 at the half. … Five El Cerrito turnovers played a key role in Campolindo’s 41-14 win. The Cougars (4-1) led 28-0 at halftime in a game that was never in doubt. El Cerrito fell to 2-3. … No. 11 Monte Vista (4-1) took a 14-0 lead and didn’t look back in a 45-13 victory over Livermore (2-3). Monte Vista quarterbac­k Jack Stewardson threw four TD passes. Jeremy Theobald had a 53-yard field goal for Livermore. … No. 19 McClymonds (3-2) recorded its second shutout of the season in beating San Leandro 16-0. San Leandro fell to 1-4. … No. 8 Bishop O’Dowd got as close as 24-14 late in the first half when Moe Flynn threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jelani Warren. But St. Mary’sStockton answered and went on to win 44-20.

Coming off a tough 18-point loss to De La Salle a couple of weeks ago, No. 6 St. Francis began West Catholic Athletic League play in style as defensive lineman Dante Giusti came up with an early intercepti­on to set up a 14-yard touchdown pass to wideout Evan Williams from quarterbac­k Jack Perry barely a minute into the game. St. Francis went on to beat St. Ignatius 31-6. … Tenth-ranked Wilcox (5-0) led 35-0 after one quarter en route to a 59-7 victory over Fremont-Sunnyvale in the De Anza League opener for both schools. Wilcox is 5-0 and has a showdown at home with Palo Alto Next Friday night. Fremont is 1-4 overall. … Palo Alto (5-0, 1-0 SCVAL De Anza) broke a seven-game skid against Milpitas (2-3, 0-1), winning 41-13. “I don’t think they were as focused on Milpitas as just trying to be the best version of ourselves, which is important for me because we can’t worry about our opponent,” Palo Alto coach Nelson Gifford said. … After a tight first half, No. 16 Valley Christian broke open this WCAL opener with two touchdowns in the third quarter and three more in the fourth on its way to a 45-7 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral. Isaiah McElvane rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns in 14 carries to lead the Warriors (3-1). … Lincoln achieved a rare feat in its Blossom Valley Athletic League Mt. Hamilton Division opener against Leland. In a 48-28 victory, the host Lions (2-1, 1-0) had two players rush for more than 200 yards in the victory. Isaac Juarez had 259 yards on 21 carries (a 12.3 yards per carry average) with four touchdowns, and Adam Arenas had 216 yards on 23 carries and two scores against Leland (1-3, 0-1). … Del Mar outlasted Branham 20-7 in the BVAL Santa Teresa Division opener for both teams. The Dons improved to 4-0 overall for the first time since 2007. … No. 23 Los Gatos’ defense was outstandin­g in a 28-0 victory over Homestead at Levi’s Stadium. The Wildcats (4-1, 1-0 SCVAL De Anza Division) allowed only 52 total yards and had a goal-line stand inside the 10 in the second quarter, in which three plays were stopped inside the 2. … Quarterbac­k Ulysses Reyes had another big game for Overfelt, throwing for 280 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Royals to a 32-14 victory in their BVAL Santa Teresa Division opener over Silver Creek.
