Wish You Were Here

SPAIN:

Danville residents Doug and Jan Rhode and Diane and Joe Accolla traveled through the Basque region of France and Spain this summer. The trip included a stop in San Sebastian to visit the Paseo De la Concha, “a beautiful boardwalk overlooking one of the most beautiful urban beaches of the world, the Playa de la Concha,” Diane said. “In the background is Monte Urgull.”

TRAVEL TIPS:

“San Sebastian is a small Belle Epoque resort town with lots to offer, so make sure you plan enough time to enjoy it all. See the historical sights of San Sebastián’s Old Town and sample a typical tapaslike pintxo at a traditional bar in the evenings. A great way to get an overview of the city is to take the hop-on, hop-off bus. Check bus time schedules beforehand. Monte Igueldo to the west of the city and Monte Urgull to the east acts like massive bookends bounding this beautiful city. From Monte Igueldo and Jolas Parkea — take the funicular up to the top — you get an incredible view of the entire city.”

PORTUGAL:

This summer’s travels took Campbell’s Jonathans family — Edward, Diana, Parker and Brooke — across Europe, from Oslo, Amsterdam and Paris to Portugal’s Algarve region, Edward said, where they visited his sister, Glennie in Barao de Sao Joao, left.

TRAVEL TIPS:

Having a home base is a great idea. “We stayed in a lovely Airbnb beach villa near Hortas do Tabual, Raposeira, then day-tripped out to (the beaches of) Lagos, Caroama, Sagres and Burgau.”
