On Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, Peter G. Quarello, loving husband of Dorothy Quarello (deceased) for 61 years, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, at the age of 92. Peter was born in Berkeley, Ca in 1925 to Luigi and Francesca Quarello. He graduated from Berkeley High school and began working at Jacuzzi Brothers. Before he was drafted into the army, he played for the Cincinnati Reds Farm team as a 1st baseman. He had the opportunit­y to met and play with Billy Martin. He also played for the Oakland Oaks. Peter was drafted into the army in 1943 and served in World War II in the Pacific Ocean theater. He fought with Merrill’s Marauders in 5307th Composite Unit in South-East Asia. He received a Purple Heart and many honorary medals from the Army. Peter worked at General Motors Foundry as a molder after his discharge from the army. He then went to work for Pepsi Cola and retired after 35 years alongside his beloved brother like friend, Sam Lazarakis (deceased). Peter met the love of his life, Dorothy, at the City Club in Oakland. They were married for 61years. He was a member of the YMI #8, SIRS and the 700 Club for Bowling. He loved his vegetable garden, sports and loved cooking his specialty Chicken Cacciatore and polenta. Peter is survived by his loving and devoted daughters, Carol Bowen (James-deceased), Sharon Varga (Laszlo) and his one and only grandson, Michael Varga. Godfather to both Michael Cozzens, Sr. and Michael Cozzens, Jr. and also survived by many cousins and close friends. Papa Pete will be missed by his loving Caregivers, Jordon and Matt. Peter was an outstandin­g father, father-in-law and loving Papa to all of us. There are so many wonderful memories we will cherish and keep close to our heart. The Rosary will be held on Tuesday, October 30th, 2018, at 7:00 pm, at The Church of The Assumption, 1100 Fulton Avenue, San Leandro, CA. Viewing will start at 6:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 31st at 1:00 pm, also at The Church of The Assumption. Burial services will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward, CA immediatel­y following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Sutter Care at Home, Gift Processing P.O. Box 160045 Sacramento, Ca 95816 in memory of Peter Quarello.
