Canucks win, first in Pacific

Brendan Gaunce’s first goal of the season midway through the third period broke a tie and sparked Vancouver to a 4-2 victory over Chicago on Wednesday night in Vancouver.

Gaunce capitalize­d on a turnover by Chicago’s Jonathan Toews.

Jake Virtanen scored for Vancouver to tie the game at 2 in the second period.

The Canucks moved into first place in the Pacific Division, one point ahead of the Sharks and Flames.

Patrick Kane didn’t play for Chicago because of an illness, missing his first regular-season game in 3½ seasons.

KINGS’ QUICK OUT AFTER KNEE SURGERY >> Los Angeles goalie Jonathan Quick is out indefinite­ly after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus in his knee.

Quick has appeared in just four games this season for the Kings, going 0-3-1 with a 4.55 goals-against average. He missed five games with a lower body injury after playing in Los Angeles’ season opener, but has allowed 14 goals in three games since returning.

He didn’t play in the Kings’ two most recent games while nursing a different lower body injury. Coach John Stevens had said he didn’t think the current problem would sideline Quick for a lengthy amount of time.
