Ernest (John) Weller, 95, entered into rest on October 30, 2018 in San Jose, CA following a brief illness. Beloved husband to Jo Weller. Loving father of William, John and James. Father-in-law of Bernadette, Carol and Dawn. Devoted grandfathe­r of Emily, Kathleen, David and Benjamin. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Born in Hollister in 1923, the son of Ernest and Lillian Weller, and brother of Jeanne Weller Kolb, he lived in San Jose for 90 years. John attended Horace Mann Grammar, Roosevelt Jr. High, San Jose High School and San Jose State University. Called to duty in March 1943, John was a 1st Lt. Celestial Navigator on a B-24 named “Jeeter Bug” with 38 combat missions in the Pacific, China and Japan. He also served in the Air Force Reserve from

1943 – 1951.After the war, he received a BA degree in Economics from Stanford University and started his career at Zellerbach Paper Company where he worked for 38 years. Married to Jo in 1953, they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversar­y.

Retiring from corporate life in 1986, John began a second career as a volunteer, helping with Christmas in the Park, Second Harvest Food Bank, Rep. Tom Campbell’s office and for senior and low income tax preparatio­n.

Throughout his life, he was a devoted lector and usher at St. Christophe­r Catholic Church.

Friends are invited to attend a Vigil Service on Wednesday November 7, 2018 at 7:00PM at the Lima Family Erickson Mortuary, 710 Willow St, San Jose.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 4:00 PM on November 8, 2018 at St. Christophe­r Church, 1576 Curtner Ave, San Jose. Private burial for immediate family. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his memory to World Vision.
