Edelman shows his support for victims of synagogue attack

- By The Associated Press

New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman expressed his support for the victims of a Pittsburgh synagogue shooting while wearing an Israeli baseball cap when he spoke to reporters after Sunday night’s game.

Edelman, who is Jewish, spoke in the Patriots locker room after the team’s 31-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers. He said, “I’m just letting the people out in Pittsburgh know I’m thinking about them. Sending vibes, and our prayers. I’m just letting them know: I’m behind you and I’m supporting (you).”

Authorities say Robert Bowers raged against Jews as he gunned down 11 and wounded six at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue on Oct. 27. He has been charged with murder, hate crimes and other offenses that could bring the death penalty.

Edelman said it was a “big hit to the community. And it was uncalled for.” GREEN LIKELY OUT SUNDAY FOR BENGALS >> Receiver A.J. Green was getting his injured right foot examined on Monday while his teammates returned from a week of rest that helped some of them heal, but not one of their most valuable players on offense.

Green hurt his right foot during a 37-34 win over Tampa Bay heading into the bye.

BILLS’ ALLEN RETURNS TO PRACTICE >> Rookie quarterback Josh Allen has resumed practicing for the first time since spraining his right throwing elbow, though Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott says it’s too early to determine whether he can play against the New York Jets this weekend.

McDermott says Allen began testing his arm Friday, and threw about 100 passes during a workout Monday, which translates into an average workload during a normal practice.

In saying he won’t rule out Allen from playing Sunday, McDermott was cautious in adding “I’m going to take it day to day at this point.” LEAGUE MOVES VIKINGSBEARS TO PRIME TIME >> The NFL has moved the Vikings game at Chicago from Sunday afternoon to prime time on NBC on Nov. 18.

That bumps Steelers at Jaguars to 10 a.m. PST on CBS. Also moving that days is the matchup between the Eagles and Saints in New Orleans, now a 4:25 p.m. game on Fox rather than at 1 p.m.

Chicago currently leads the NFC North at 5-3, a halfgame in front of Minnesota, which has a bye this week. TITANS 28, COWBOYS 14 >> Marcus Mariota threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score after fumbling on Tennessee’s first two possessions, and the Titans spoiled Amari Cooper’s Dallas debut.

Kevin Byard sparked the sluggish Titans with an endzone interception of Dak Prescott and celebrated T.O.-style. The Tennessee safety sprinted to midfield and stood on the Cowboys’ star logo while spreading his arms, just as Terrell Owens did 18 years ago at old Texas Stadium in a San Francisco rout.

The Cowboys looked like the team headed for a blowout win, but led just 7-0 after Mariota’s early miscues because of Brett Maher’s missed 38-yard field goal and Prescott’s illadvised throw into double coverage.

The Titans (4-4) stopped a three-game losing streak while handing the Cowboys (3-5) their first loss in four home games and giving Dallas a difficult road to recovery for the playoffs.
