Marcia Anne (Volpe) Cali
May 17, 1953 - October 24, 2018 Resident of Saratoga
At peace with the Lord, after a prolonged, valiant battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, which robbed her of her wit, humor and essence, but not her love.
Marcia was a gentle soul; a kind and giving person. Coming of age in the era of the career woman, her chosen vocation was that of “Mom”, and she excelled at it. Her two proudest achievements were her daughters, Laura and Liz. She reveled in her 4 grandchildren, albeit for much too short a time. As her daughters grew and matured, she found satisfaction in her myriad of volunteer positions, first with St. Joseph of Cupertino School and later at Presentation High School, where she was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” in 2000. She was truly at her best when surrounded by and nurturing children, be they her own or those with which she worked.
Marcia is survived by her husband of 44 years, Ron, her daughters Laura (Al) and Liz, her beloved grandchildren Sierra, Nicholas, Dylan and Trevor, and her brothers and sisters Karen Volpe (Fred), Cindy Ashworth (the late Allen), Mark Volpe (Nancy), Michael Volpe (Jennifer) and Mary Volpe, nieces Shawnna Duffy, Katie Volpe and Debbie Good and nephew Ben Ashworth.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge her long-time friend and caregiver, Erin Rose McKinley, who was with Marcia from the very beginning of this terrible ordeal and stood by her through the darkest and hardest times. Also, a special thanks to Nina and Jack Herndon, owners and principals of Sage Eldercare Solutions, and their employee Ariana Alex, Marcia’s longtime care manager, and Jasmin Inorosa, Lolita Esplana, Njeri McGillicuddy and Rosa Deras, outstanding and compassionate caregivers who helped Marcia through her long illness.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM on Friday November 30, 2018 at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 15333 Woodard Rd, San Jose, CA 95124. In lieu of flowers and/or cards, a donation may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern California, Presentation High School, St. Joseph of Cupertino School or a charity of your choice.
