The first in a string of weaker storms expected to affect the Bay Area over the next several days brought minimal rain Monday to some parts of the region. However, a stronger system could deliver widespread rain to the Bay Area early next week, but meteorologists caution that is too far out to forecast with confidence.

Rainfall totals from the Monday system were “less than impressive,” with only a few hundredths of an inch in some locations, primarily in the North Bay, according to the National Weather Service. San Francisco and Oakland each recorded 0.01 inch of rain, while the South Bay stayed dry.

Another weak system could bring a few showers to the North Bay late today into early Wednesday, but most cities are expected to remain cool and dry through Thursday, according to the weather service.

Another weak system is expected to take aim at Northern California on Friday and could be the wettest of the week, said Scott Rowe, a meteorologist with the weather service.

The weather service says it is tracking a system that could deliver widespread rain to the Bay Area early next week, but because it’s seven to eight days away, confidence in the forecast is low.

Since Oct. 1, rainfall totals across the Bay Area include San Francisco at 4.30 inches (78 percent of normal); Oakland at 3.75 inches (83 percent); San Jose at 2.33 inches (74 percent); and Mountain View at 1.47 inches (51 percent).
