McKenzie’s misses outnumbere­d hits

ALAMEDA >> Reggie McKenzie was hired by owner Mark Davis following the 2012 season to be the general manager and handle the personnel department following the death of owner Al Davis. McKenzie was fired Monday, and since last January has been a facilitato­r for coach Jon Gruden.

Some notable transactio­ns under the watch of McKenzie from 2012 through 2017, during which time the Raiders were 36-60 with a playoff appearance and a 12-4 season in 2016:

Hits

• Drafted Khalil Mack, Derek Carr, Gabe Jackson and Justin Ellis in the first four rounds of the 2014 NFL draft.

• Signed center Rodney Hudson as an unrestrict­ed free agent from the Kansas City Chiefs before the 2015 season.

• Signed guard Kelechi Osemele as an unrestrict­ed free agent from the Baltimore Ravens before the 2016 season.

• Signed Charles Woodson as an unrestrict­ed free agent before the 2013 season after his release by the Green Bay Packers.

• Signed tackle Donald Penn as an unrestrict­ed free agent following his release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the 2014 season.

• Signed wide receiver Michael Crabtree as an unrestrict­ed free agent from the 49ers before the 2015 season.

• Drafted wide receiver Amari Cooper out of Alabama with the No. 4 overall draft pick in 2015.

• Signed tight end Jared Cook as an unrestrict­ed free agent from the Green Bay Packers before the 2017 season.

• Signed running back Jalen Richard as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Mississipp­i before 2016 season.

• Signed slot receiver Seth Roberts as an undrafted free agent in 2014.

Whiffs

• Signed cornerback­s Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer in free agency before 2012 season. Neither lasted the season.

• Signed outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley to two-year, $12 million unrestrict­ed free gent contract to play defensive end before the 2014 season. Played in six games with five starts.

• Drafted cornerback DJ Hayden in the first round of the 2013 draft with the No. 12 selection. Hayden had a serious internal injury (ruptured vena cava in heart) and never ascended to the status of a fulltime starter. Played in 45 games with 25 starts, three intercepti­ons.

• Used second-round picks on tackle Menelik Watson (2013), defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. (2015), defensive end Jihad Ward (2016) and safety Obi Melifonwu (2017), none of whom became significan­t contributo­rs and are no longer with the organizati­on.

• Signed linebacker Curtis Lofton from Atlanta Falcons to three-year unrestrict­ed free agent contract with maximum value of $18 million, released after one season.

• Signed safety Nate Allen to four-year unrestrict­ed free agent contract with maximum value of $23 million in 2015, released after two seasons, 19 games and seven starts.

To be determined

• Drafted cornerback Gareon Conley (Ohio State) in first round of 2017 NFL draft, No. 24 overall, despite sexual assault investigat­ion. No charges were filed, Conley played sparingly as an injured rookie but has looked the part of a firstround draft pick of late.

• Drafted safety Karl Joseph (West Virginia) in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft, No. 14 overall, despite coming off a torn ACL. Joseph has battled injury and consistenc­y issues but has come on in the last few weeks and could be in the Raiders’ plans for the future.

• Other players on roster acquired under McKenzie’s watch: LB Marquel Lee, S Erik Harris, RB DeAndre Washington, S Reggie Nelson, G/C Jon Feliciano, TE Lee Smith.
