Build up, not out

Car buffs with an extra vehicle or two to store in their garages should consider the Autostacker parking lift. The galvanized-steel unit’s hydraulic cylinders can lift and support up to

6,000 pounds and the manufacturer claims it takes up less space than competing products. The Autostacker is also available with a removable center-deck access panel that allows you to service your vehicle from below. The PL-6SR model sells for $6,000, including free shipping within the continental United States (plus $475 for the optional access panel that fits between the ramps.). You can order the extra-wide PL-6SRX for $6,450. Purchase at www.autostacker. com.

Put a plate on your head

Vintage license plates look really cool on old automobiles, but they also look good on headgear produced by Gasoline Caps of Portland, Oregon. Its line of hats features embroidered patches of various state license plates from a wide range of years. A few of the many styles include 1935 Vermont, 1975 Montana, 1952 Michigan, 1969 Alabama and 1957 Ohio. All the one-size-fits-all caps are made from either blended wool or canvass fabrics and come with either snap or Velcro closures, depending on the selection. Prices range from $28 to $30. Roof inflation

Here’s a simple, inexpensive way to carry your canoe, kayak, surfboard, snowboard or various other gear. The inflatable HandiRack roof-rack system (SKU #MPG452) from Malone Auto Racks consists of two 38-inch-long by 9.5-inch-wide nylon bladders that you inflate using the supplied air pump. The bladders are then secured to the inside of your vehicle’s doors. Once filled to the correct pressure, each HandiRack can support up to 180 pounds. Load straps and a tote bag are also included, as is a one-year warranty. This product is not recommended for vehicles with side-curtain airbags. The system retails for $100 and can be purchased at www. maloneautoracks.com.

Free your wheels with this

Removing frozen or stripped lug nuts should be easier with the Lug Ripper from Metal

Edge Products, Inc.

This specialized professional-grade tool is made from a special metal that was originally designed to drill through 4 inches of solid steel up to 200 times before wearing out. It works by cutting out the 17-, 19- or 21-millimeter-diameter nut from the inside, exposing the stud that will need to be replaced (it likely would have to be replaced anyway). A primary benefit is that the process can be completed without damaging the wheel, as would likely be the case if a chisel, air hammer or torch were used. The complete Lug Ripper kit sells for $270 and includes a cutting tool, three different guide sizes, collar clamp and wedge (low-speed half-inch-drive air drill sold separately). Purchase at www.lugripper.com.
