May 16, 1943 - December 7, 2018 Resident of Los Gatos

Vincent Keane Seid, M.D., age 75, died of a cardiac arrest on December 7, 2018, in his own home in Los Gatos, CA. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Zeny Seid; his son, Michael Seid (Isabella, wife); step-grandchildren Stewart (Mayra) and Kiku; his stepchild Arnie Reinheimer (Grace); and his 5 step-grandchildren Stephanie, Amanda, Michael, Nikki and Kira. Also surviving are his half-siblings Sandra Sorah (Robert), Gordon Seid, and Shirley Viehmann (Steve). He is preceded in death by his daughter Sandra, his father Wallace B. Seid, his mother, Mary R. Leong, his step-mom Linda, and his half-brother, Calvin Seid.

Vince was born on May 16, 1943 in Portland, Oregon, to parents Wally and Mary Seid (née Leong). He graduated from Portland State University in 3 years and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in 1968. He interned at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance and completed a 4 year general surgery residency at Valley Medical Center in Fresno. He served as a major in the US Air Force for 2 years during the Vietnam War. In 1976 he moved to the Bay Area to become partner at the San Jose Surgical Group where he worked for about 15 years, mostly operating on O’Connor Hospital patients. He joined Kaiser Permanente in 1991, loving his work there, until his first cardiac arrest in 2001 essentially forced his retirement from surgery.

Retiring from Kaiser did not slow him down, however. He focused his energy largely on Catholic ministries, in particular as a Eucharistic minister for the sick, and Sunday masses. Being a very spiritual man, he loved praying and meditating at least twice a day. People who met him often say how calming his very presence was. He loved being a grandpa to his step-grandchildren, and was always a loving father and the best husband anyone could ever have. He was known as a very caring and careful physician, adored by patients and colleagues alike.

His family and friends will always remember him as very loyal, generous, and above all, patient to the nth degree. He spoke ever so calmly, softly, and respectfully to everyone always. One 95 year-old patient said, “I feel the holy spirit in me when I’m near you,” which probably summarizes Vince’s being.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 12:00 noon on Monday, December 17, 2018, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, located at 219 Bean Ave., Los Gatos, CA, where he was a parishioner for over 25 years. Reception will follow at the Hoffman Center in the same campus as St. Mary’s. Father Rick Rodoni will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Vince’s life. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Catholic Charities, at 2625 Zanker Road., San Jose, CA, 95134 is preferred.
