National Geographic Traveler’s Best Trips
We know and love Oakland for so many reasons. Its diversity, its progressive spirit, its artists, its every-weekend-festival mentality and singular culinary scene (sorry, San Francisco).
Looks like the editors at National Geographic Traveler agree. They selected Oakland as one of 28must-see destinations and travel experiences in 2019.
The annual “Best Trips” issue is divided into four categories: Cities, Nature, Culture and Adventure. Oakland was selected in the Culture category and it was one of only four U.S. destinations — and the only California city — included in the big list.
From the issue, emblazoned with a photo of bustling Telegraph Avenue and the stunning Fox Theater: “With revitalized Jack London Square and Temescal Alley, Oakland is basking in a newfound share of Bay Area spotlight. ... Support what makes Oakland Oakland by diving into the multicultural food scene or Oakland Museum of California’s exhibit on local LGBTQ history, April 13to Aug. 11.”
The December/January 2019issue of Traveler magazine is now available on newsstands. Peek at the full list of 28destinations at NatGeoTravel.com/BestTrips2019. Meanwhile, here are the top cultural destinations.
