Graduate engineering student found dead

A graduate engineering student was found dead at the Paul G. Allen Building on Monday, a Stanford university official said.

An investigation into the cause of death is underway, but there are no ongoing safety concerns for the campus, said Jennifer Widom, dean of the School of Engineering, in a community message.

“I know I speak for all of us here at Stanford in offering our sympathies to the individual’s family, loved ones, fellow students and friends,” she said.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office is contacting the student’s next of kin, said Widom, adding that the university is withholding the student’s name.

Widom said there are a number of services available for those affected by the student’s death:

• Counseling and Psychological Services offers crisis counseling. Walk-in appointments are available and clinicians are on call 24/7 at 650-723-3785

• The Bridge Peer Counseling Center offers counseling by trained students 24/7 at 650-723-3392

“The death of a student is always hard to understand and accept,” Widom said. “Please take care of yourselves and those around you.”
