QDear Hillsborough: The Flintstone House upgrades have been the best thing to happen in your city, ever. The owner’s vision is fabulous and whimsical. Take in some art, people.

This is what art looks like.

To the owner Florence Fang, you have my full support as a local. Thank you for exploring the possibilities for the magic of the Flintstone House. It’s a fun project that every child or person young at heart driving down Interstate 280 can enjoy. — Andi Martin A Hillsborough thinks the Flintstone characters are a “public nuisance” and should be removed, saying the display is far outside the norms observed throughout the town. Q Yes it’s kind of insane and tacky and that’s why I love it. It’s human. It’s not a cookie-cutter, soulless townhome. — Julia Marie Different A it is.

Q

I’ve known this house as the Flintstone House all my life. I remember passing it thinking if I ever owned it I would put giant dinosaurs in the yard. It was awesome that someone finally did. I am hoping the city loses this petty complaint. — Ed Fritz A In the court of public opinion, it is.

Q

It’s a national historical hysterical monument. How dare they call it an eyesore. — Dio G. A Remember I-280 has been called the nation’s most beautiful freeway. There’s the Crystal Springs reservoir, the Father Junipero Serra statue, clouds rolling over the mountains west of 280, cows grazing near Stanford and, of course, the Flintstone mansion.

Q

The Flintstone House is on the hillside facing the freeway. I think people are overacting. … Some people really need to learn to laugh. … That house has made me smile for years. Some people need to get over themselves. … Does everybody have to conform to the same standards? What’s wrong with being different? They aren’t hurting anyone. … That house was always a highlight of my drive to San Francisco when I was a kid. Still kinda is. — Bay Area Native, F.P., B. Newcomb and more A And today’s final rant.

Q

The Hillsborough town motto: “Individualism and Creativity Must Be Squashed!” — Simon Miller A But there are a couple of complaints.

Q

It’s a shame they turned such a potentially beautiful home into an eyesore. The original builders were the ones who built a work of art, not this cartoon person. — Sandra White Q I used to be a fan of the Flintstone House. It used to be artistic and whimsical. Now it’s just tacky. The dinosaur garden has all the whimsy of a low-grade roadside amusement attraction. Restore it to its former beauty. — H.B. A Tacky? Really.
