Report: No charges will be filed against Giants CEO Baer

- Field Level Media

Giants CEO Larry Baer won’t face criminal charges stemming from a public incident with his wife on March 1, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday.

Baer took a leave of absence three days after the incident in which he was seen pushing wife Pam to the ground. The incident was caught on video and initially released by TMZ.

“After a careful review of the relevant evidence, including multiple videos, statements from several witnesses and the parties themselves, the evidence does not support filing criminal charges,” district attorney’s office spokesman Alex Bastian said in a statement to the Chronicle.

Baer still could face punishment from Major League Baseball under its domestic violence policy despite the absence of charges.

On the day of the incident, the couple reportedly were having a loud argument about a cellphone when Baer knocked his wife, Pam, out of a chair and down to the ground. Both Larry Baer and Pam Baer released statements later that day saying a foot injury Pam had recently suffered led to the fall. Larry Baer admitted his behavior was “inappropriate.”

San Francisco mayor London Breed called for Baer to be suspended earlier this week. She expressed that sentiment in a letter to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred.

TROUT TO REEL IN RECORD DEAL » Mike Trout is on the verge of a 12year, $430 million contract extension Angels star Mike Trout is getting a record $430 million, 12-year deal.

with the Los Angeles Angels, ESPN reported Tuesday.

Trout, 27, is a two-time American League Most Valuable Player and was scheduled to become a free agent in 2020. The agreement, per ESPN, tacks on 10 years to the final two seasons remaining on Trout’s $144.5 million agreement with the Angels.

The deal would smash the massive contract signed by Bryce Harper — 13 years, $330 million with the Philadelphia Phillies — on March 2.

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Greinke had the MLB record annual average salary at $34.4 million. Trout would eclipse that mark with $36 million AAV.

Trout has a staggering 64.3 Wins Above Replacement through his age-26 season, which is far beyond any player at his age in Major League Baseball history. Trout, who has a career .307 batting average with 240 home runs, 648 RBIs, 793 runs and 189 stolen bases in 1,065 career games, also finished second in the MVP voting four times.

Martelli was 444-328 as head coach of the Hawks, including seven NCAA Tournament appearances, the highlight coming in 2004, when point guard Jameer Nelson guided 27-win St. Joe’s to the Elite Eight.

Hired as head coach in 1995 after serving 10 years as an assistant, Martelli went 41-55 over the past three seasons, including 1419 in 2018-19.

KENTUCKY’S WASHINGTON AILING? » Kentucky star power forward PJ Washington is wearing a walking boot to deal with an apparent injury just two days before the second-seeded Wildcats open play in the NCAA Tournament against 15th-seeded Abilene Christian.

The school hasn’t released any injury information on Washington but is expected to provide an explanation today. Washington’s father, Paul, told the Courier Journal that his son is wearing the boot “for precautionary reasons.”

He was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection and is viewed as an NBA first-round draft choice should he decide to leave school.

K-STATE’S WADE DOUBTFUL » Kansas State star forward Dean Wade is doubtful to play in the NCAA Tournament due to his right foot injury, Wildcats coach Bruce Weber told reporters.

Wade, a senior, had issues with the foot on a few occasions late in the season and then aggravated it against Oklahoma in the regular-season finale. A victory over the Anteaters would allow Wade to rest the foot 48 more hours, but Weber doesn’t think the extra time will make a difference.

Wade is averaging 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds through 25 games this season. He earned first-team All-Big 12 honors for the second time.
