Sarah, Todd Palin split seems in works
Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, appear to be headed for divorce. The onetime first couple of Alaska is calling it quits after 31 years of marriage, the Anchorage Daily News reported Monday, although the apparent split is being handled cryptically.
Todd Palin, or at least somebody with his initials, filed for divorce from Sarah Palin, or someone with her initials, on Friday, according to the publication.
No full names — just the initials — were used in the court filings.
But TP and SP share the same date of marriage as the Palins and their only minor child has the same birthdate as Trig, the Palins’ 11-year-old son.
TP’s court filing asks for joint legal custody of their son. That person cited “incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband and wife.”
The Palins, both 55, have four other children — Track, 30; Bristol, 28; Willow, 25; and Piper, 18.
Sarah Palin was a relative unknown outside of Alaska in 2008 when she became the surprise choice of Republican presidential hopeful John McCain as his vice president. She became the GOP’s first female VP candidate.
The McCain-Palin ticket lost the election to Democrat Barack Obama and his running mate, Joe Biden.
Palin won the Alaska governorship in 2004. Following her unsuccessful VP bid, she resigned as governor in 2009 before completion of her term. She has since maintained a national profile through books, speaking engagements and social media presence.
Todd Palin is a champion snowmobile rider, winning the Tesoro Iron Dog four times. In 2016 he was seriously injured while riding a snowmobile, suffering a collapsed lung and fractured ribs, among other injuries.
The Anchorage Daily News said it reached out for comment from Kimberlee Colbo, the Anchorage attorney who is representing TP. She had said in a filing that she would ask the court to treat the divorce as confidential.
