Burglary at Hercules house is second one on same street
HERCULES >> A house on the same street where burglars made off with $60,000 in cash two days earlier was broken into Thursday by thieves, who escaped with $7,000 in jewelry, police said Monday.
Sgt. Joseph Vasquez said police are investigating both break-ins, and “it looks like a strong possibility it could be the same suspects.”
The burglary Thursday was reported about 10:42 a.m. in the 500 block of Turquoise Drive, an isolated, lightly traveled street.
The resident was not home at the time, and a neighbor saw two people entering a car parked near the house that then drove away.
Police said burglars got into the house by breaking a side window and then ransacked several rooms, taking about $7,000 in jewelry.
Police believe at least three suspects were involved, including a getaway driver. One suspect was described as a Hispanic or light-skinned black man with a thin build, wearing black and gray clothing.
The car they fled in was a newer model gray four-door Infiniti with dealer paper plates, police said.
The vehicle appears to be the same one used by burglars who broke into a house in the 700 block of Turquoise about 11:30 a.m. two days earlier, making off with $60,000 in cash and two passports, authorities said.
Those residents had left the house shortly before the burglary and, when they got back about 12:45 p.m., found the house ransacked. Police said two suspects entered the house while the third waited in a parked Infiniti.
Police are investigating if the same suspects might be responsible for other burglaries as well. Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call police at 510-724-1111.
