Light rain, lower temperatures expected across Bay Area this week
After last week’s heat wave, autumnlike weather expected
After a heat wave hit the Bay Area last week, the region will enjoy cooler, autumnlike weather this week, including possible light rain early today.
Friday the 13th was the hottest day last week, with Morgan Hill seeing the highest temperature at 104 degrees. Other hot spots included San Francisco, which reached a high of 94 degrees, and Concord and Livermore, which hit 100 degrees.
By Sunday, temperatures cooled by 10 to 20 degrees from the previous day.
As a storm system in the upper atmosphere passes through northern and central California today, some areas will see light rain early this morning that should clear up by the afternoon, said Scott Rowe, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Monterey.
There is a 50% to 60% chance of rain today for most of the Bay Area, according to the National Weather Service.
“Some places may not even need an umbrella at all. There could be some slick roadways in the morning, just before sunrise through morning commute hours,” Rowe said.
Temperatures for the rest of the week will stay within the high 60s and 70s across the Bay Area, warming up toward the end of the week, Rowe said.
“As we go through the week, not much will change, holding from the middle to upper 60s in San Francisco, middle to upper 70s as you head south to San Jose, and a subtle warming trend as we hit Friday,” Rowe said.
San Francisco will be in the high 60s and Oakland in the low 70s for the remainder of the week, according to the National Weather Service. Cities like San Jose and Fremont will see temperatures in the mid- to high 70s.
Further inland, cities like Walnut Creek and Livermore will reach highs in the high 70s to low 80s.
