Three Oakland women arrested in vehicle burglary
PORTOLA VALLEY >> Three Oakland women were arrested Wednesday on suspicion of breaking into a car, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said Friday, and authorities are investigating if they may have been involved in other vehicle burglaries, including two that happened earlier in the day.
The women were identified as Shikila Bell, 24; Malaika Lazenby, 25; and Jovita Malone, 31.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were in the area of Alpine Road near Piers Lane at 2:23 p.m. Wednesday investigating two vehicle burglaries. While there, dispatchers informed them of a vehicle burglary in progress in the 3400 block of Sand Hill Road, near the Horse Park near Woodside.
In that burglary, a witness saw a woman, later identified as Bell, shatter the car window and reach inside. The witness then saw her get into a white Toyota Camry that had the other two women as occupants, according to sheriff’s officials.
The Toyota traveled east on Sand Hill Road near southbound Interstate 280. The car became disabled with a ruptured tire at Alpine Road, under the freeway. The women got out of the car and started running on Alpine Road, officials said, but they were soon arrested.
Deputies recovered wallets, ID cards, driver’s licenses, credit cards, cash and teaching materials. Investigators are trying to determine if the recovered items were from the Portola Valley break-ins or from other cities.
The women were arrested on suspicion of auto burglary and conspiracy. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s anonymous tip line at 800547-2700.
