Leader in water utility industry provides quality, service, and value to customers and employees

-

California Water Service Group (Group) is proud to be named a Top Workplace in the Bay Area for the eighth year in a row. At Group and our largest subsidiary, California Water Service (Cal Water), we believe that in order to fulfill our promise of quality, service, and value to our customers, communities, and stockholders, we must also deliver quality, service, and value to our employees. We must empower employees through teamwork, professional development, a safe workplace, and transparent communication. Because, after all, our employees are our greatest advocates.

Throughout our more than 90year history, Cal Water has always worked hard to meet the needs of our customers, communities, and stockholders. Our legacy would not have been possible without the vision and dedication of our employees. Although we started from humble beginnings and originally provided water to just four cities in California, we have grown to now provide water in Hawaii, New Mexico, Washington, and more than 90 California communities. And, we keep growing! This year, we added a unique customer through our 50-year lease with Travis Air Force Base. We are the first regulated water utility to have a partnership with the Department of Defense in California, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to serve the men and women who so bravely serve our country. New growth like this makes it an exciting time to be part of Cal Water.

What makes working at Cal Water special? Our employees have the opportunity to collaborate and solve challenges that affect all of our service areas throughout the state. Plus, employee development is a key factor in retention at Cal Water, as people are consistently offered the chance to learn about roles outside of their own jobs, which helps them make educated decisions about their career path with the company.

Another great quality about our company is that our employees are both literally and figuratively here for one another. Last November, the Camp Fire in Paradise destroyed 13 of our employees’ homes. Other employees sprang into action to get their peers back on their feet. Whether opening their pocketbooks, volunteering their time, or hauling supplies, our employees came through for one another. As a company, we responded in kind by providing temporary housing, financial assistance, and resources for our displaced team members.

Not only that, but employees are encouraged to be involved in the community, both here and abroad. Beyond being part of a team that supplies a reliable supply of highquality water to so many communities in California, it’s important to our people to truly be part of their communities and know the residents and businesses they serve. Whether it’s raising money for a local charity or donating time to build a well for clean water in Guatemala, our employees are connected to their communities at home and globally.

But, don’t take our word for it. Hear what some of our employees have to say:

“I feel like I am making a difference, and my contribution is appreciated. My boss is an excellent leader and genuinely cares about our employees.”

“I love my job because of our commitment to public health, the difference we are making in people’s lives every day, and the people I work with.”

“I’m given the freedom to perform to the best of my ability. There is room to learn and explore new things. The company is willing to invest in tools that modernize and make procedures better.”

“I am challenged in a good way, I have the autonomy to make decisions, people have a lot of integrity, and I work for a company that touches people’s lives in a very important way.”

“We are like a family. We come together during a crisis and take care of each other. It’s our company, and the company makes me feel valued.”

“I love working at Cal Water because there is satisfaction in a job well done. It is challenging at times to achieve all

of the goals, but it is very rewarding to work here with my work family.”

“We actually improve the quality of life for those we serve. My boss is caring, ethical, and strategic. My team is dedicated to being the best. The company does the right thing.”

“Working in the water industry is an important job. So, I love the fact that I play a role in providing something so essential for so many people. And to know that we do it very well adds to that feeling of pride.”

“Growing the company is hugely adventurous. It encourages me to grow, too.”

“I love my job because of the leaders, managers, and all of the employees.

Cal Water is very family-oriented and has a pleasant work environment. I feel secure with my job position and see opportunities for growth. Working for Cal Water boosts my self-esteem and provides me with a sense of accomplishment.”

“I am given the resources to both improve as a professional and be successful at my job.”

“The entire organization is very focused on our customers, being constructive members of the communities we serve, and consistently doing the right thing. Because of the corporate culture, I take great pride in working for Cal Water and truly believe that we are the best water utility in the country.”
