Ducks knock off Huskies, take firm hold on Pac-12 North

Justin Herbert hit Jaylon Redd for a 5-yard touchdown with 5:10 left, the last of his four scoring passes, and No. 12 Oregon rallied from a 14-point deficit on the road to beat No. 25 Washington (5-3, 2-3 Pac-12 ) 35-31 on Saturday.

Down 28-14 after the opening drive of the second half, Oregon’s touted defense finally showed up and gave Herbert a chance to rally the Ducks. The Ducks pulled within 3128 on the final play of the third quarter when a welldesign­ed screen pass on fourth-down found Mycah Pittman, and the freshman raced untouched 36 yards for the score.

The Ducks’ defense forced consecutiv­e threeand-outs, and Oregon marched its way to the goahead score. Between Travis Dye and Cyrus Habibiliki­o, the Ducks went 70 yards in 3 ½ minutes, and Herbert found Redd in the flat for the final 5 yards and the lead.

Herbert finished 24 of 38 for 280 yards. The victory gave Oregon (6-1, 4-0) complete control in the North Division. Four of the five other teams already have three conference losses, with Oregon State at 2-2 the closest to the Ducks.

NO. 13 UTAH 21, NO. 17 ARIZONA STATE 3 >> Zack Moss rushed for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns, becoming the Utes’ career rushing leader in the key Pac-12 South win over the Sun Devils (5-2, 2-2 Pac-12). Utah (6-1, 3-1) won its third straight game and earned a valuable tiebreaker in its quest for a Pac-12 South title.

The Utes ended Arizona State’s modern-era record streak of 125 games with more than 10 points.

ALABAMA’S TAGOVAILOA LEAVES GAME WITH ANKLE INJURY >> Alabama quarterbac­k Tua Tagovailoa left in the first half against Tennessee with an ankle injury. Tagovailoa walked off the field and was taken to the sideline medical tent during the second quarter Saturday night.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban told ESPN Tagovailoa twisted an ankle and that he wasn’t sure of the quarterbac­k’s status for the second half.

WASHINGTON STATE 41, COLORADO 10 >> Anthony Gordon passed for 369 yards and four touchdowns, and the Cougars (4-3, 1-3 Pac12) rolled to snap a threegame losing streak. The Buffaloes (3-4, 1-3) lost their third straight.

WYOMING 23, NEW MEXICO 10 >> The Cowboys (5-2, 2-1 Mountain West) had a pair of 100-yard rushers in the win over the Lobos (2-5, 0-3), their sixth-straight home win dating back to last season.

FOUR-TIME CANCER SURVIVOR PLAYS FOR NO. 20 MINNESOTA >> It was a moment Casey O’brien dreamed about, but thought would never occur.

The Minnesota walkon, a four-time cancer survivor, made his first collegiate appearance in the Golden Gophers’ 42-7 road victory over Rutgers. O’brien was the holder on three successful PAT’S for No. 20 Minnesota (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten).

He was diagnosed with osteosarco­ma, a rare bone cancer, when he was a freshman in high school.

“Everything I’ve gone through was worth it,” O’brien said. “It’s a moment I’ve been thinking about as a kid.”
