Classical picks: Joshua Bell and Alessio Bax pair up for Stanford Live recital

This week’s classical calendar brings dynamic pairings to Bay Area stages.

Davies and Fretwork: One of the music world’s reigning counterten­ors, Iestyn Davies is equally at home with Baroque and new works. He comes to Berkeley’s Cal Performanc­es this week, joined by the British viol ensemble Fretwork, to perform a mixed program featuring music by Purcell and contempora­ry composer Michael Nyman. Kim and Pohjonen: South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim and Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen are the special guests for San Francisco Performanc­es’ annual Gift Concert. Fabulous “Figaro”: If you haven’t yet seen San Francisco Opera’s “The Marriage of Figaro,” there’s still time to catch the last performanc­e.
