Classical picks: Joshua Bell and Alessio Bax pair up for Stanford Live recital
This week’s classical calendar brings dynamic pairings to Bay Area stages.
Davies and Fretwork: One of the music world’s reigning countertenors, Iestyn Davies is equally at home with Baroque and new works. He comes to Berkeley’s Cal Performances this week, joined by the British viol ensemble Fretwork, to perform a mixed program featuring music by Purcell and contemporary composer Michael Nyman. Kim and Pohjonen: South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim and Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen are the special guests for San Francisco Performances’ annual Gift Concert.
