SAN JOSE >> A pedestrian and bicyclist have died from injuries they suffered in separate collisions with vehicles late last month, according to San Jose police.

In one collision, a 56-year-old man was walking on the roadway at South First and East Virginia streets south of downtown at 11:43 a.m. Oct. 23 when he was hit by a southbound 2008 silver Lexus, police said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died Wednesday, police said. His identity has not been released, pending notification of his next of kin. The Lexus driver stopped and cooperated with police.

On Tuesday, a 91-yearold man was riding a bicycle north on Morrill Avenue when he made a left turn toward Capewood Drive, against a red light, police said. That reportedly put him in the path of a southbound 2016 Toyota RAV4.

“The driver of the Toyota was unable to avoid the collision and struck the bicyclist,” police wrote in a news release.

The bicyclist was taken to a hospital and also died Wednesday, police said. His name was not released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin.

Neither driver in the fatal collisions is suspected of driving impaired, police said.

The two deaths bring the number of traffic fatalities in San Jose to 43 for the year. Of those, 18 were pedestrians.

Anyone with information about either collision can contact the SJPD traffic investigations unit at 408-277-4654. Tips about the Oct. 23 collision should go to Detective Michael O’Brien; information about Tuesday’s incident should go to Detective Brian McMahon.
