Peek inside the new Palihotel
We have a great fondness for historic hotels, especially when they’ve been renovated into a state of modern comfort. Seattle’s new Palihotel — which just made the Travel + Leisure “It List” as one of the world’s best new hotels — has remade the city’s 19th-century Colonnade Hotel into a modern boutique hotel. The results are rich with quirky design touches, right down to the whimsical llama portrait in the lounge.
It’s a great home base for any visitor. Pike Place Market and the Elliott Bay Waterfront are just steps away, along with bustling downtown restaurants and shops.
ZZZ’S: The hotel’s 96 guest rooms and its public spaces are decorated in deep forest hues. Khaki and floral upholstered headboards add comfort and style to the alreadyvery-comfortable beds. And a retro Smeg minifridge, tucked inside the old brick fireplace,
is stocked with splits of Champagne, bottles of Jones soda and cans of cocktails.
SPLASHES: The compact bathrooms — this is a historic building, after all — are stylishly appointed with Palisociety toiletries, fluffy white towels and, in ours, a walk-in shower with glossy green and white tiles and a rainwater shower head.
EXTRAS: Grab a bite at The Hart and the Hunter, a Southern-meets-pacific Northwest eatery just off the lobby. Or take your cup of Arrowhead coffee into the book-lined lounge where cozy sofas await. The books are shelved spine in — it’s a design statement, just go with it, but expect to play a bit of literary Russian roulette in making your reading choice.
