Gilder helps Zags beat old school
Admon Gilder and Ryan Woolridge each scored 16 points, and No. 8 Gonzaga routed Texas A&M 79-49 on Friday night in College Station, Texas.
Filip Petrusev added 14 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Bulldogs (4-0) overcome a slow start. Drew Timme had 11 points.
Gilder also had seven rebounds in his return to Texas A&M. He transferred last summer after the Aggies fired Billy Kennedy and hired Buzz Williams. Gilder sat out last season following the discovery of a blood clot in his arm.
Wendell Mitchell led Texas A&M (2-1) with 14 points. ANTICEVICH’S CAREER NIGHT LEADS CAL >> Grant Anticevich scored 16 of his career-high 23 points in the first half, and Cal (3-0) went on a big run in the second half to beat California Baptist 82-62 at Haas Pavilion to remain unbeaten in coach Mark Fox’s debut season.

JONES HELPS NO. 2 DUKE PULL AWAY FROM GEORGIA STATE >> Tre Jones scored a career-high 31 points, and No. 2 Duke pulled away to beat pesky Georgia State 74-63 at home. Freshman Vernon Carey Jr. added season highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds and Jack White finished with 10 rebounds. Duke (4-0) overcame season-worst 34.2% shooting by outrebounding the Panthers 58-32, including 30 offensive rebounds.
Corey Allen scored 20 points to lead Georgia State (1-2).
MOSS LEADS NO. 5 KANSAS TO 112-57 ROMP OVER MONMOUTH >> Isaiah Moss poured in 21 points to lead six Jayhawks in double-figures scoring, and No. 5 Kansas romped to a 112-57 home victory over undersized and outclassed Monmouth. The Jayhawks (2-1) ran their home winning streak to 23 straight, third longest behind only Tennessee (28) and Gonzaga (25).
NO. 17 UTAH STATE ROLLS >> Alphonso Anderson had 21 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Justin Bean added 18 points to help No. 17 Utah State (4-0) beat North Carolina A&T 81-54 at home in Logan, Utah.
NO. 12 SETON HALL PLACED ON PROBATION >> The NCAA has placed the men’s basketball program at Seton Hall on probation for three years, taken away a scholarship for the 2020-21 academic year and limited recruiting in each of the next two seasons as part of a negotiated resolution of a transfer tampering case started in 2016.
Under terms of the agreement announced Friday, Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard was given a two-game suspension he has already served. Seton Hall remains eligible for the NCAA Tournament.
GEORGIA TECH FILES APPEAL OVER SANCTIONS >> Georgia Tech filed an official written appeal over sanctions levied upon the men’s basketball program in September for major recruiting violations. The program was handed a one-year postseason ban and placed on probation for four years after an NCAA investigation uncovered recruiting violations.
