Camino Brewing offering a Lyft with new beer
Ride Smart partnership is launched on ‘Thanksgiving Eve’ party night
San Jose’s Camino Brewing Co. wants customers to drink its newest beer over Thanksgiving weekend, but it doesn’t want them getting behind the wheel when they do.
That’s why the new limited release brew, Buen Camino, will include a code that can be used on Lyft. It’s part of the ridehailing company’s Ride Smart program, and the code provides a 20% discount — up to $5 — on a ride. (There are a couple of restrictions: The discount must be used within 24 hours of being entered on Lyft’s app and it works only in San Jose.)
“We are excited to partner with Lyft to offer our customers a better way to travel throughout San Jose this holiday season, whether they’re coming to or going home from Camino or just enjoying all the great festivities happening around town,” Camino Brewing co-founder and CEO Allen Korenstein.
The Hazy IPA’s name pays homage to the Camino de Santiago; the greeting often is shared among people walking the celebrated pilgrimage through Europe.
The trek — undertaken by Korenstein and coowner Nathan Poulos — was also the inspiration for the brewing company.
It’s no coincidence that the promotion was launched on Wednesday.
The day before Thanksgiving long has had a reputation as a huge party day partly because of college students returning home for the holiday and other people kicking off a four-day weekend.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “Thanksgiving Eve” is one of the deadliest nights on the road during the holiday season. Nationwide, more than 800 people died in alcohol-related crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday period from 2012-16.
This year, the NHTSA is even conducting a social media campaign, urging people to #BoycottBlackoutWednesday.
