- Staff and wire reports

Nashville police have arrested homicide suspect Michael Mosley after a search in connection to the fatal stabbing Clayton Beathard, brother of 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard, and another man in Nashville, Tennessee, according to published reports.

Mosley, 23, is facing two counts of criminal homicide and one attempted homicide charge in connection to the assaults. Mosley was captured on Wednesday in Cheatham County, Tennessee. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said he would be booked into Davidson County custody on Wednesday.

Law enforcement surrounded a vacant home, where officers say Mosley was alone. He surrendered Wednesday afternoon, MNPD said.

“Accused double murderer Michael D. Mosley just arrested in Cheatham County. Mosley will be booked later today on 2 counts of criminal homicide and 1 count of attempted criminal homicide for Saturday morning’s stabbing of 3 men, 2 fatally,” the Metro Nashville Police Department tweeted around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The cops added that Mosley “surrendered from a vacant home in Cheatham County after it was surrounded by law enforcement. He was there alone.”

Beathard’s brother, Clayton — the 22-year-old quarterback for Long Island University — and 21-yearold friend Paul Trapeni were stabbed to death trying to help a female friend fend off unwanted advances from Mosley, the police report said.

The Beathard siblings also have another brother, country music sibling Tucker Beathard. Their father is country songwriter Casey Beathard.

Mosley has a long arrest record, including burglary, assault and drug-related arrests and convictions, authorities said.

A combined task force of MNPD SWAT, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents, U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and Midtown Hills Precinct detectives, as well as Cheatham County sheriff’s deputies were involved in the arrest, MNPD said.

Clayton Beathard and Trapeni were fatally stabbed Dec. 21 at The Dogwood, a bar in Nashville. Another man, identified by police as a 21-year-old University of Tennessee student from Franklin, survived the stabbing attack with injuries to his eye and arm and was recovering.

Clayton Beathard is the grandson of NFL Hall of Fame executive Bobby Beathard.
