SAN JOSE >> California Highway Patrol officers opened fire on a juvenile during a confrontation late Monday night in South San Jose, according to the law enforcement agency.

Neither the suspect nor the officers were injured in the incident, the CHP said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

Around 10:45 p.m. Monday, officers tried to stop a Ford Mustang for a taillight violation, according to the CHP.

The CHP said the driver did not comply with the officers’ attempt to stop the Ford and fled, “driving at high rates of speed and in a dangerous manner, which threatened public safety.”

Officers pursued the Ford to Rielly Court, a cul-de-sac off Blossom Hill Road in San Jose. The Ford then collided with a patrol vehicle and an “officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to the CHP.

The CHP said driver escaped in the vehicle but soon was located by San Jose police officers.

“Follow-up actions led to the arrest of a male juvenile, who is believed to be the driver of the suspect vehicle at the time of the incident,” the CHP said in the news release.

Asked for additional details about the incident, including where it began and how many shots were fired, Officer Chris Micelli of the Holister-Gilroy CHP area office said “the investigation is ongoing” and “we are not releasing any other information at this time.”

Anyone with information about the incident can contact CHP Sgt. Mario Mendez at 831-6620511.
