Survey: Porn stars support Sanders
Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has a commanding 2-1 lead among California’s likely Democratic primary voters, according to a new poll by UC Berkeley’s Institute of Government, is enjoying broad support among the state’s Latinos, African Americans and Pacific Americans, according to another statewide poll.
He’s also liked by young people and has picked up endorsements from an eclectic selection of famous people, including Ariana Grande, Dick Van Dyke, Jack Nicholson and Susan Sarandon.
But a secret source of the 78-year-old’s political power could come from another sector of the state’s powerful entertainment economy: the $1 billion-ayear porn industry based in the San Fernando Valley.
The Daily Beast reports that a survey of 30 of porn’s biggest stars shows that a number are “feeling the Bern.”
More than half expressed their support for Sanders, the Daily Beast said, adding that some said they were contractually barred from endorsing presidential candidates.
One supporter is Alana Evans, the president of the Adult Performers Actors Guild. “I am a Bernie Sanders supporter. I voted for him against Hillary (Clinton) and, when given the opportunity, I will vote for him again,” Evans said.
Another adult star, Janice Griffith, told the Daily Beast she supports Sanders because of his call for “Medicare for All and the abolition of ICE.” Griffith also appreciated Sanders’ support for decriminalizing prostitution and for the SAFE Sex Workers Study Act, a House bill that would study the health and safety of sex workers who have lost the ability to advertise their services online under the FOSTASESTA anti-trafficking law.
Another porn star told The Daily Beast she likes Sen. Elizabeth Warren, while another voiced support for Trump.
Former Vice President Joe Biden has received support from Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Rob Reiner, Olympic skater Michelle Kwan and “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin, People said. Cher also issued a series of tweets on Biden’s behalf.
Warren’s fans include John Legend, Chrissy Teigen and Melissa Etheridge.
