Coronavirus patient transferred to San Mateo County
A person with coronavirus has been transferred to San Mateo County for care, health officials said this week.
One repatriated patient is receiving care somewhere in the county, according to the San Mateo County Health Department,
meaning that the person returned from traveling abroad.
Officials will not be releasing more information about the nature of the case or where the person is currently located.
The case marks the first to be treated in San Mateo County and comes at a moment of widespread concern in California over the virus, where a total of 33 people have tested positive as of Thursday.
Federal health officials revised guidelines to increase the number of people who should be tested after the revelation that a Solano County woman was hospitalized for 11 days before her infection was detected.
Across the state, officials are monitoring over 8,400 people who recently returned from China or are in close contact with someone who has.
Who should be tested? Here are the CDC’s new criteria:
Fever or symptoms of lower respiratory illness, such as cough or shortness of breath AND Close contact with a confirmed coronavirus patient. Fever or symptoms of lower respiratory illness, such as cough or shortness of breath, requiring hospitalization AND A history of travel from China, Iran, Italy, Japan or South Korea. Fever or symptoms of lower respiratory illness, such as cough or shortness of breath, requiring hospitalization, when there’s no alternative explanatory diagnosis, like flu AND No source of exposure has been identified.
