A top-shelf shelf

If you’re looking for something special for yourself or a muscle car lover in your life, look no further than this unique piece from Summit Racing Equipment. The Plymouth Barracuda Light-Up Shelf consists of a tempered glass top attached to a replica front end of one of Chrysler Corporation’s more iconic models. The cast-resin item is 19.5 inches long by seven inches wide by seven inches tall, and is designed to mount flush against a wall. The Barracuda’s headlights can be switched on (requires two AA batteries). And if you’re not into Barracudas, then Summit also sells versions resembling the noses of the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS and a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. They’re priced at $130 from www. summitracing.com.

The big-bounce theory

Anyone who has had to trailer their rare/expensive hobby or racecar (or any vehicle, for that matter) lives in fear that their precious cargo could be damaged in transit. One way to reduce that possibility is with the Chassis Stabilizer from Mac’s Tie Downs. This item consists of a sturdy rubber bladder (round or rectangular-shaped) that, once inflated by compressed air (up to 20 pounds per square inch) and strategically positioned beneath the vehicle, significantly reduces the severity of undulations due to uneven (or rough) road surfaces, thereby reducing the risk of damage. The Chassis Stabilizer sells for $300 and can be purchased directly from the manufacturer at www.macscustomtiedowns.com.

Tube it to the slopes

Safety and security while transporting ski and/or snowboard equipment is always important and the variety of products offered by Sportube offer plenty of both. The company’s hard-shell containers are made from high-density polyethylene and are capable of absorbing some hard knocks, whether strapped to the roof rack or transported by other means. The Series 3 Special Edition is built to contain up to two pairs of skis or two snowboards plus boots and bindings, but will also hold all types of gear. Built-in wheels and a detachable tow handle are included as is a “nic knac pak” for storing extra gear. The Series 3 sells for $320 and is available from www.sportube.com.

Keep your seat neat

It’s often difficult keeping the interior of your vehicle clean and free from assorted messes, spills and pet hair. With kids and the family pooch often riding with you, however, that’s not an easy feat. To “solve it,” the machine-washable and quilted Solvit Deluxe Back Seat Cover has been designed to fit over the rear bench seat of most vehicles. The cover creates a comfortable cushion for your pet while preventing moisture and hair, etc., from penetrating the seat. The included elastic traps and special clips help secure the Back Seat Cover in place. Order one for about $40 at most pet-supply stores or from a number of online resellers, including www.petco. com.
