Bradley steps up in overtime to lead Cal over Utah

Matt Bradley scored six of his 21 points in overtime before fouling out, and Cal held on to beat Utah 86-79 on Saturday at Haas Pavilion.

Andre Kelly had 15 points, nine rebounds and a careerhigh five blocks, Grant Anticevich added 17 points and eight rebounds, and Paris Austin scored 15 with four assists for California (13-16, 7-9 Pac-12).

Timmy Allen had 26 points for Utah (15-14, 6-11), while Alfonso Plummer scored a career-high 23.

Bradley, who missed a desperatio­n half-court heave at the end of regulation, scored California’s first points of overtime then added two free throws with 1:07 left. He fouled out 18 seconds later then watched from the bench as the Golden Bears ended a three-game losing streak against the Utes.

The Bears outscored the Utes 17-10 in overtime.

Cal led by six with one minute remaining in regulation before Utah made a late push to force overtime. Plummer made a deep 3-pointer over the outstretch­ed hand of Bradley with 10.3 seconds left, and Both Gach added two free throws with 2 seconds left after Austin missed one of two from the stripe. Utah has lost five of six. The Utes trailed much of the first half, then went on a 14-3 run to go up by four at halftime. Plummer had a pair of 3s and scored on a lefthanded layup.

That helped the Utes make up for the loss of point guard Rylan Jones, who left the game early with an apparent head injury after crashing into Bradley while going for a rebound.

SANTA CLARA HOLDS OFF PORTLAND >> DJ Mitchell posted a career-high 25 points, including four free throws in the final 12 seconds, and Keshawn Justice scored 20 to help Santa Clara hang on for a 73-68 win over Portland at Leavey Center.

Santa Clara (19-12, 6-10 WCC) secured the seventh seed in the tournament and will the 10th-seeded Pilots (922, 1-15) in the opening round on Thursday in Las Vegas.

The Broncos snapped their six-game losing streak and won for the 10th consecutiv­e time in the series.

USF TOPS LOYOLA MARYMOUNT >> Jordan Ratinho scored 17 points, USF San Francisco held off Loyola Marymount for a 69-67 win on the road. Khalil Shabazz added 16 points for the Dons (20-11, 9-7 West Coast Conference),

who have 20 wins for the fourth straight season.

Jordan Bell scored a career-high 25 points to lead LMU (10-20, 4-12).

The win for the Dons came on the day a statue of the late Loyola Marymount basketball star Hank Gathers was unveiled outside of LMU’S Gersten Pavilion, four days before the 30th anniversar­y of his death. MITROU-LONG SPARKS UNLV WIN OVER SAN JOSE STATE >> Elijah Mitrou-long had 20 points, six rebounds and six assists, and UNLV routed host San Jose State 92-69. The Rebels (17-14, 12-6 Mountain West Conference), who ran their winning streak to five heading into the conference tournament.

Seneca Knight had 20 points for the Spartans (723, 3-15), whose losing streak stretched to nine games.
