SAN JOSE » A 57-year-old man who fell from a speeding pickup truck and was run over in early November died from his injuries last month, San Jose police announced Tuesday.

Police said the case, initially classified as a domestic violence incident and homicide, now is being investigated as a “fatal collision only.”

Around 11:30 a.m. Nov. 5, officers were dispatched to a parking lot on the 2500 block of Tully Road for a report of a domestic disturbance involving a man and a woman, police said.

Police said the pair left the parking lot in a red Dodge Dakota at a “high rate of speed,” with the woman behind the wheel and the man hanging out the passenger door.

Officers found the man lying in the roadway. He had been run over at least once by the truck. The woman left the scene but returned minutes later and was taken into custody, police said.

The man was rushed to an area hospital with lifethreatening injuries. He was later transferred to a hospital in Sacramento, where he remained until his death Feb. 20, police said.

The death marked the city’s 12th fatal collision of the year.

Police on Tuesday announced two additional traffic fatalities. A man was killed in a hit-and-run at McLaughlin Avenue and Story Road on Monday night and an 82-year-old woman died the same day from injuries she suffered in a hit-and-run at South 11th and East St. James streets on March 11.
