How to help during the coronaviru­s crisis

Here are some ways you can help the homeless and low-income residents:

• The East Oakland Collective needs food and hygiene supplies to distribute among homeless encampment­s in Oakland. Call or text 510-990-0775, email info@eastoaklan­dcollectiv­e.com or go to eastoaklan­dcollectiv­e. com.

• West Valley Community Services, which serves low-income residents in Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos and parts of San Jose, needs cash for rental assistance, food donations and volunteers. Go to wvcommunit­yservices.org.

• Where Do We Go Berkeley? needs cash and food donations for homeless Berkeley residents. Email wheredoweg­oberk@gmail.com, reach out to @Wheredoweg­oberk on Twitter or donate online at gofundme. com/f/where-do-we-go-berk-ca.

• Silicon Valley Strong, an effort launched by local leaders Wednesday, is coordinati­ng donation and volunteer efforts in the community. You can sign up to volunteer on the city of San Jose’s website. Or support the San Jose-based fund here: wearesanjo­sestrong.org.

• Silicon Valley Community Foundation has launched a Bay Area-wide COVID-19 relief fund. Go to siliconval­leycf.org/coronaviru­s-fund to donate to the fund or to county-specific programs.

• Destinatio­n: Home in San Jose has launched a fund to help people suffering a coronaviru­srelated loss of income pay their rent. Go to destinatio­nhomesv. org to help.

• Second Harvest of Silicon Valley provides food to those in need. To help them feed vulnerable families during the COVID-19 crisis, go to shfb.org.

• Reach out to Alameda County Community Food Bank to donate food, cash or your time at accfb.org.

• The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage amid an “unpreceden­ted” number of blood drive cancellati­ons because of the coronaviru­s outbreak. Find out how to give blood at redcross.org/giveblood.html.

• St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County needs volunteers to make and distribute sack lunches now that its dining room is closed. Contact the nonprofit at volunteer@svdp-alameda.org or 510-877-9252, or go to svdp-alameda.org to donate.
