QWith all the talk about gas prices, it would be good to remind people to either wear gloves or use a sanitizer wipe on the number pad and gas hose handle and anything else you touch when buying gas.

AGood tip, and here’s another one.

The 76 gas station at West San Carlos Street and Bird Avenue in San Jose is offering full service at its pumps between 3 and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at no extra charge, an option Californians have not had since the late ’70s.

“It’s been said that most germs or viruses can be spread at the pumps, and so now our customers no longer have to get out of their vehicles to gas up. Just pull up to the pump and we’ll do the rest,” said a manager, Kamryn Duque. “And if you want us to grab a snack or beverage from inside our snack shack, we will.

“I’m impressed with how well customers have taken to this new service, and I have no doubt that this will soon become a new norm even after this whole virus pandemic gets better.”

Kudos, and it would be nice if more stations offered this.

QHere is how a coworker handles working at home with five little kids. In the morning, the kids put a bottle of daddy’s beer in the fridge. That’s the signal that daddy is working and needs to be left alone. When daddy is done working he yells, “Kids! Bring me my beer!” and the kids know that daddy is done working for the day. Daddy gets a beer and a joyful mob scene.

— Scott Miller, San Jose

AI can imagine that joyful end-of-workday mob scene.

QI see two unintended rate increases as a result of the shelter-inplace orders, namely, increases in the birth rate and increases in the divorce rate!

AKeep the babies coming.

QMr. Roadshow, thank you for your updates about the DMV during the stay-athome orders. All the info is about delaying a trip to the DMV, but what about registration that requires a smog certificate but no DMV visit? I do not want to take my car in to get smogged, but the registration expires April 2. Will I get a fine from DMV? I certainly would not mind paying the registration fee now.

— Robin Ricard, Walnut Creek

AThe California Bureau of Automotive Repair is advising owners to file registration paperwork and pay fees by the deadline even if they haven’t gotten a smog check “because of orders or directives put in place by state and local health officials.” The smog check can be done when it’s safe for you to leave home.
