SHUTDOWN CONTINUES. With the Las Vegas strip going dark along with the rollout of states adopting shelter-in-place policies, the temporary shutdown announcements began last week. “It has become clear to me that we must take this extreme action to help contain the virus and protect the safety and well-being of our team members and guests,” said Caesars Entertainment CEO Tony Rodio on March 17 regarding its network of properties including Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe. In Reno, the opening of Circus 1903 at the Eldorado, which was slated to open March 21, has been postponed. Its new opening date is still to be determined. Tickets already purchased will be honored once the show opens and those unable to attend will be given instructions regarding a refund. Over at the Silver Legacy, #IMOMSSOHARD have rescheduled their Saturday performance to August 21. Tickets for the March 28 date will be honored at the rescheduled date and those unable to attend will also be given instructions to obtain a refund. In the meantime, with surfing the net on the rise, check out your favorite entertainer’s website and social media pages to keep up with their plans. ENTERTAINMENT NOTES. The showrooms may be closed but the musicians are still recording, performing free mini concerts on social media, and releasing music. East Bay natives and Lake Tahoe favorites Tower of Power just released its latest album Step Up last Friday. Due to the change of events due to COVID-19, the east coast tour will be rescheduled later in the year. In addition to the Step Up Tour, TOP also just released its hip new video. “It’s been over 30 years since Tower of Power made a video and making this new one was quite an experience,” TOP bandleader Emilio Castillo told Live For Live Music recently. “The song is Look In My Eyes written by Rocco Prestia and his buddy from Spyro Gyra, Tom Schuman. Rocco brought the bottom and the serious funk and Tom brought the jazz and the vocal element to the song. There’s onstage live action with the band; Marcus singin’ and dancin’ with two bodacious female vocalists, and me, trading jazz scat vocal licks back and forth with Tommy Politzer’s soulful sax. There’s a bunch of cool street scenes with some very hip dancers partying and carrying on. It’s sure to be enjoyed by TOP fans round the world!” The band tips its hat to its Oakland roots with another little gem on the album East Bay! All the Way! Step Up is available on iTunes and Amazon, and you can catch the new Look In My Eyes video on YouTube. Visit towerofpower.com
