Paraeducat­or arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornograph­y

SAN JOSE >> A 26-year-old staff member at San Jose’s Oak Grove High School was arrested Thursday on suspicion of possessing child pornograph­y, authoritie­s said.

On May 13, the San Jose

Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force opened an investigat­ion after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children passed on a tip from a social media platform that Estevan Gerardo Carrillo had files depicting child pornograph­y, said San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten.

Tepoorten said the task force confirmed the tip and learned that Carrillo worked as a paraeducat­or at Oak Grove.

On Thursday, the Police Department’s MERGE Unit served a search warrant at Carrillo’s home in San Jose and took him into custody without incident, Tepoorten said.

Carrillo was booked into Santa Clara County jail on a charge of possession of child pornograph­y.

Tepoorten said there is no evidence at this time that the child pornograph­y involved any Oak Grove students.

Carrillo has worked as a paraeducat­or for the East Side Union High School

District since October 2014, said Glenn Vander Zee, the district’s associate superinten­dent of human resources.

“The district has no additional comment at this time as it is cooperatin­g with the investigat­ion of the San Jose Police Department,” Vander Zee said.
