Milpitas Christian School

-

Befitting the innovative and service-driven heart of Silicon Valley, students who matriculate through Milpitas Christian School (MCS) readily display these attributes. Founded in 1973, the private, pre-k through eighth-grade school provides challenging and nurturing academic and personal development programs that prepare students for lifelong learning, service to community, leadership and success. At the Resource Center, staff meet one-to-one to address students’ specific learning needs. While some may need help with homework or with learning English, others improve their study skills. Meanwhile, the Sensory Room plus specialized programs and activities are available to satisfy learning goals and accommodations in IEP and 504 Plans. “Many of our students have applied the skills learned at MCS to help others in the community,” says Kathy Yao, director of student academic services for MCS. Quick-thinking middle school students recently used 3D printing to produce face shields after learning of this critical need for community workers. They independently researched, printed, assembled and donated the face shields to the Milpitas Food Pantry and other community service organizations. Also at MCS, K-5 students reap the benefits of the school’s adoption of Singapore Math. The method applies conceptualization and manipulation as building blocks for math and science education and even enriches MCS students’ reading, social studies and spelling success. In addition to the day school, MCS runs an extended-day program, summer camps, summer school and after-school enrichment programs open to students who attend any school. 3435 Birchwood Lane, San Jose 408-945-6530 milpitaschristian.org
