Don’t confuse education, child care in bid to reopen

-

In the Mercury News article (July 9) “Trump: Students must return to school,” Mitch Mcconnell says he has “made reopening schools a priority to help parents get back to work.”

He’s confusing education with child care. It’s the school district’s responsibility to provide education, not child care.

To get parents back to work, expand day care for school-aged children. In small local child care units, the children can access the distance learning or hybrid education provided by their local school districts.

Employers can step up to be part of the solution, providing access to this child care and enabling their employees to go back to work. — Clare Meyerson, Sunnyvale
