Allegations in Cisco lawsuit raise alarms

Re. “State suit claims Cisco allowed discrimination,” July 2: In my 20 years of working as an engineer in Bay Area high tech companies, I have never worked with an Indian of Dalit origin, I’ve worked with less than five Indian-origin Muslims and have not worked with an African American since 2006.

The state of California’s lawsuit against Cisco alleging caste-based discrimination might just be the tip of the iceberg. The suit’s allegation, “higher caste supervisors and co-workers imported the discriminatory system’s practices,” is particularly concerning given India’s increasing shift toward right-wing nationalist politics. — Amir Qureshi, San Jose
