Dismayed by SJPD’S treatment of people of color
I am dismayed by the information contained in your July 1 editorial (“Bay Area police disproportionately killing Black people”) regarding disproportionate violence by the SJPD against African Americans.
Between that and the gross mishandling of the May 29 peaceful march, I can well understand why the Black community distrusts the SJPD. I’m surprised at the restraint that African Americans and all people of color have exhibited.
At the very least, Chief Eddie Garcia should lose his job and Mayor Sam Liccardo should withdraw all support for the engineers of that unwarranted assault. I am thankful that The Mercury News editorial board speaks truth to power. — Pietro Didonato, San Jose
