Mixed-use project in east San Jose lands Costco as one of anchor store
SAN JOSE >> A big mixed-use complex that’s under construction in east San Jose is expected to include a Costco Wholesale store as one of its anchors.
A public market, shops, restaurants, residences, athletic fields, a paseo, and public parks are slated to be part of the under-construction project, called Evergreen Circle, that has begun to sprout near the corner of Capitol Expressway and Quimby Road.
“Retail offerings include a market, drugstore, and fitness club in addition to general merchandisers and casual dining,” according to a post on the web site of SGPA Architecture, which designed the project.
A new sign touting “Costco Wholesale Coming Soon” has appeared alongside Capitol Expressway and a huge building whose outline matches the profile of a Costco store is under construction at the project.
A post on the Costco
web site states that a new San Jose store is “opening soon” with an October 2020 launch date.
Hunter Properties and Arcadia Development are building out the project, according to a post on the architect’s web site.
The 80-acre community includes 250 residences, 405,000 square feet of retail, a retail paseo, a health center totaling 40,000
square feet, a 14-acre softball athletic complex, and pocket parks, SGPA stated onitssite.
“A large food hall in the center circle features ethnic food purveyors and outdoor dining,” SGPA said.
The mixed-use center is slated to include an array of open spaces designed to help the new project meld with existing homes that are nearby.
In addition to the retail sites, construction also was underway this week on the residential portions of the project.
“As a community focal point, a large central commons serves as a strong connector to neighboring residential areas,” SGPA said on its web site.
