1930: In the first World Cup of soccer, the host country (Uruguay) wins.

1934: Bud Selig, the man who brought baseball back to this boy’s hometown and thus is forgiven all sins, is born in Milwaukee, Wis.

1957: Bill Cartwright is born in Lodi, grows up to attend USF and win three NBA championsh­ips with the Michael Jordan Bulls.

1959: Willie McCovey has four hits, including two triples, in his major league debut for the Giants.

1963: Chris Mullin is born in Brooklyn,

N.Y.

1968: The Senators’ Ron Hansen pulls off an unassisted triple play, the eighth in MLB history and the first in 39 years. (Still only 15 in history — unless one happened last night.)

1973: The A’s are no-hit by Jim Bibby of the Texas Rangers.

1976: Bruce Jenner sets the world record in the Olympic decathlon with 8,618 points.

1980: Houston Astros pitcher J.R. Richard has a stroke during a workout at the Astrodome.

1982: The Atlanta Braves return Chief Noc-A-Homa (egads!) and his teepee to left field after losing 19 of 21 games. The teepee had been removed because — no, not that — the team wanted more seats to sell.

1990: George Steinbrenn­er is forced to resign as general partner of the New York Yankees by commission­er Fay Vincent.

2007: Bill Walsh dies of leukemia at 75.

2012: Kendrys Morales becomes the third player in MLB history to homer from both sides of the plate in the same inning, joining Carlos Baerga and (what??!) Mark Bellhorn.

2012: Missy Franklin, 17, wins Olympic gold in the women’s 100-meter backstroke. Will attend Cal.

2013: Katie Ledecky, 16, crushes the world record in the 1,500 freestyle at the world championsh­ips in Barcelona. Will attend Stanford.
