Great tunes from Bay Area artists
Check out these three new releases from local musicians.
“Woolsey,” LifeSize: The San Jose State University graduate’s poignant new album is inspired by his own experience during the Woolsey Fire, the devastating wildfire that burned nearly 100,000 acres in Southern California and forced LifeSize and so many others to evacuate their homes in 2018.
The music is impressive on so many different levels, resulting in a collection of vastly appealing roots-rock tunes that should appeal to fans of Mark Knopfler, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. Plus, it supports a good cause, with 100% of the album sales being donated to DirectRelief (directrelief.org), an organization supporting health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Details: $8, individual tracks, $1.29; www.lifesizemusic. net or Amazon.
“Problem Addict,” Once and Future Band: The Oakland spacepop band somehow manages to sound both retro and futuristic at the same time on this release — like you’ve somehow come across a lost Brian Eno track. And I guess that makes perfect sense, given the band’s name. Details: Videos, tracks and albums available at linktr.ee/ onceandfutureband; more information at www.facebook.com/ OnceAndFutureBand.
“Songs We’ll Always Sing — A Tribute to the Pilgrim Jubilees,” the Sons of the Soul Revivers: The Vallejo-based gospel group, which got its start in 1970, is celebrating both its 50th anniversary and the release of this new album that pays tribute to the iconic Pilgrim Jubilees, the sensational gospel troupe that has been making music since the mid-1930s.
