SAN JOSE >> Some stores and restaurants at Westfield Valley Fair shopping mall in San Jose began on Monday to open their doors for inside shopping, a farreaching change amid the ongoing economic dislocation unleashed by the coronavirus.

The huge retail and restaurant complex had not offered wide-ranging shopping inside stores for months, going back to when state and local government agencies started to impose an array of business shutdowns to combat the spread of the deadly bug.

The Valley Fair website listed roughly 93 stores or restaurants that were open. The re-launch of inside store and restaurant access also includes the firsttime openings of numerous merchants that are new to Westfield Valley Fair.

Westfield Valley Fair, located in Stevens Creek Boulevard in San Jose, had just begun to show off a host of high-profile retailers and promote their openings when the business shutdowns began. The center was in the late stages of a massive expansion at the time.

“The new retailers and restaurants debut at the center as part of an ongoing $1.1 billion transformation, making Westfield Valley Fair a destination where the community can safely come together to shop, eat, and play,” the shopping center stated in an email sent to this news organization.

Bloomingdale’s in recent weeks had opened for in-store shopping, adding a high-profile department store to the center.

One of the focal points of the re-opening is the mall’s luxury merchant component.

“Valley Fair’s expanded Luxury Collection will debut new retailers upon reopening including Jimmy Choo and Bvlgari, alongside current retailers Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Saint Laurent, and others,” Valley Fair said in the email.

The Digital District is another new component of the shopping center that has opened with the instore shopping relaunch.

“Valley Fair’s exclusive collection of direct-toconsumer brands making their brick and mortar debut includes brands like We The People and Felix Gray. Retailers joining The District upon the re-opening of the center include Brik + Clik and unique goods shop Goodies,” according to Valley Fair.
