Utah hands No. 21 Colorado its first setback of season

Ty Jordan scored twice, including a game- sealing 66-yard TD burst, and Utah’s revamped defense forced three turnovers to help the Utes rally past previously unbeaten No. 21 Colorado 38-21 on a snowy Saturday in Boulder.

The Utes (2-2, 2-2 Pac-12) found their footing on the frozen field in the second half, turning around a 2110 deficit by scoring 28 unanswered points.

Colorado freshman Brenden Rice, the son of Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice, showed off his speed by scoring twice — on an 81yard punt return and on a 61-yard catch off a bubble screen. But it wasn’t enough as the Buffaloes (41, 3-1, No. 21 CFP) suffered their first loss under new coach Karl Dorrell.

Colorado needed a win along with UCLA beating USC to capture the Pac-12 South Division.

NO. 1 ALABAMA 52, ARKANSAS 3 >> Devonta Smith returned a punt 84 yards for a touchdown as the Crimson Tide scored 28 points in a span of 11 minutes in the first half and rolled past the Razorbacks (3-7 SEC).

Najee Harris scored touchdowns 14 seconds apart and a plunge from 1 yard by Brian Robinson Jr. had Alabama (10- 0, CFP No. 1) cruising.

LSU 37, NO. 6 FLORIDA 34 >> Cade York kicked a 57-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining to lift the Tigers (4- 5) to an upset victory over Florida (8-2) in Gainesvill­e, Fla. The Gators missed a 51-yard field goal attempt as time expired. NO. 20 NORTH CAROLINA 62, NO. 9 MIAMI (FLA.) 26 >> Michael Carter and Javonte Williams set an NCAA record by combining for 544 yards rushing, and the Tar Heels (8-3, 7-3 ACC) embarrasse­d the Hurricanes (8-2, 7-2) in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Carter ran for 308 yards and two touchdowns, while Williams had 236 yards

and three touchdowns.

Carter and Williams’s combined total topped the NCAA’S listed FBS record for teammates, set on Nov. 30 when Jaret Patterson (409) and Kevin Marks (97) rushed for 506 for Buffalo against Kent State. NO. 11 COASTAL CAROLINA 42, TROY 38 >> Grayson Mccall threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jaivon Heiligh with 45 seconds left and the Chanticlee­rs (11- 0, 8- 0 Sun Belt) preserved their first perfect regular season.

NO. 12 GEORGIA 49, MISSOURI 14 >> JT Daniels threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, two to George Pickens, and the Bulldogs (7-2 SEC) routed the Tigers (5-4).

NO. 15 NORTHWESTE­RN 28, ILLINOIS 10 >> Cam Porter ran for 142 yards and two TDS, Evan Hull added 149 yards on the ground, and the Wildcats (6-1) tuned up for the Big Ten title game by beating the Illini (2-5). NO. 24 BUFFALO 56, AKRON7 >> Jaret Patterson ran for 105 yards and matched a major- college football record by reaching 1,000 yards for the season in five games as the Bulls (5- 0) rolled.

Patterson scored two touchdowns before halftime, bringing his season totals to 1,025 yards and 18 rushing TDS for the Bulls (50). He is the 12th player in FBS history to surpass 1,000 yards in as many games.

ARMY 15, NAVY 0 >> Tyhier Tyler scored on a 4-yard run early in the fourth quarter, the Black Knights defense stoned the Midshipmen with a goal-line stand in the third, and Army (8-2) beat its archrival Navy (37) at fog-shrouded Michie Stadium.

WOMAN KICKER MAKES HISTORY >> Sarah Fuller became the first woman to score in a Power Five conference football game by kicking an extra point for Vanderbilt.

T he goa lkeeper for Vanderbilt’s SEC women’s soccer champs didn’t get a chance on the Commodores’ first two drives against Tennessee.

But Vanderbilt drove late in the first quarter and Ken Seals threw an 18-yard pass to Cam Johnson for a touchdown.

Fuller added a PAT kick in the fourth quarter.

ARIZONA FIRES SUMLIN >> Arizona fired coach Kevin Sumlin, a day after the Wildcats were steamrolle­d 70-7 by rival Arizona State.

Arizona (0- 5) has lost a school-worst 12 consecutiv­e games. Sumlin went 9-20 in three seasons at the helm.

Arizona said it would honor the terms of Sumlin’s five-year contract. His buyout is $7.5 million, according to multiple reports.
