Second-ranked Baylor posts back-to-back routs

Macio Teague had 18 points to lead six players scoring in double figures for No. 2 Baylor, which beat visiting Alcorn State 105-76 on Wednesday for its second lopsided victory in a 23-hour span.

Jared Butler added 17 points on 6- of-8 shooting, and Matthew Mayer had 14 points for the Bears. Davion Mitchell, Jordan Turner and Zach Loveday each scored 10.

Baylor (8- 0), the only Big 12 team without a loss, returned from its Christmas break with back-to- back midweek afternoon games. They were the last games for the preseason conference favorites before resuming Big 12 play this weekend.

Tyree Corbett had 24 points to lead Alcorn State (0- 5), while Byron Joshua had 12 and Oddyst Walker 11.

Corbett had six early points, including backto-back jumpers that tied it at 12 about six minutes in after Teague’s second 3-pointer.

Baylor responded with a 17-2 run in less than five minutes, going ahead 2914 when Butler had a steal that he converted into a fastbreak layup.

The Bears got their next basket when Mayer had a steal and got the ball to Butler, who made an alleyoop pass to Mark Vital for a slam. Mitchell then had a steal, and after a media timeout hit a 3-pointer. Vital later had a steal before his fastbreak dunk made it 49-24. NO. 23 VIRGINIA 66, NOTRE

DAME 57 >> Kihei Clark had 19 points and five assists, and the Cavaliers (5-2, 1- 0 ACC) improved to 12- 0 in Atlantic Coast Conference openers under coach Tony Bennett and 10- 0 in ACC regular- season matchups against the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame (3- 5, 0-2) fell despite a career-high 28 points from Nate Laszewski.

NO. 25 OHIO STATE 90, NEBRASKA 54 >> Freshman Zed Key made all five field goals and had a career-high 14 points for the Buckeyes (8-2, 2-2 Big Ten). Teddy Allen led the Cornhusker­s (46, 0-3) with 13 points. Nebraska shot 28.3 percent and was 5 of 33 (15.2 percent) on 3-pointers.

STANFORD- OREGON STATE

POSTPONED >> Today’s game between Stanford and Oregon State has been postponed due to COVID-19 testing results and contact tracing within the Beavers program.

The Pac-12 Conference will try to find a date to reschedule the game. PEPPERDINE-SAINT MARY’S GAME IS OFF >> Pepperdine is halting activities because of a positive COVID-19 test on Wednesday. The Waves will postpone West Coast Conference games against BYU at home on Thursday and at Saint Mary’s on Saturday.

Pepperdine will try to reschedule the games.

Women

PACIFIC 78, SAINT MARY’S 70, OT >> The host Gaels (25) rallied from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime but fell short against the Tigers (3-1) in the West Coast Conference opener for both schools. Taycee Wedin led Saint Mary’s with 15 points, and Madeline Holland contribute­d 14 points and six rebounds.

BYU 76, SANTA CLARA 50 >> The Broncos (5-3, 1-1 WCC) had their four-game winning streak snapped in the road loss to the Cougars (6-1, 2- 0). Lindsey VanAllen led the Broncos with 13 points.

SAN DIEGO 61, USF 54 >> Ioanna Krimili of the Dons led all scorers with 22 points, but USF (4- 4, 0-2 WCC) fell to the host Toreros (4-3, 1-1).

NO. 23 GONZAGA 58, PEPPERDINE 58 >> Jill Townsend scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds, Jenn Wirth had 12 points and 14 rebounds, and the Zags (72, 2- 0 WCC) recorded their sixth straight win. Malia Bambrick scored 10 points for Pepperdine (3-3, 0-2).
