-

Oscar da Silva heated up in the second half as Stanford pulled away for a 75- 60 win over Washington State in Santa Cruz on Saturday.

The game was tied with six minutes to go on Andrej Jakimovski’s career-best fifth 3-pointer for WSU but Da Silva scored 10 of Stanford’s final 17 points while the Cougars missed their final six shots and turned the ball over three times.

Da Silva, the Pac-12’s leading scorer, finished with 27 points on 10- of-18 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds for his third straight double- double. Stanford (8-3, 4-1 Pac-12) has won nine straight over WSU (92, 2-2).

SANTA CLARA EDGES SAINT MARY’S >> Keshawn Justice had 23 points and came through for Santa Clara on a series of key plays in the final 18 seconds as the Broncos narrowly beat Saint Mary’s 66- 64 in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams. Justice gave the Broncos (72) the lead at 65- 64 on a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left and then blocked Tommy Kuhse’s shot and grabbed the rebound with a second left. Kuhse fouled Justice, who made the second of two free throws with 0.5 seconds left and Saint Mary’s (9-3) failed to get a last shot off before the buzzer.

TIE AT TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS >> Ryan Palmer went through a range of emotions over the final 15 minutes Saturday that ended with him posting a 9-under 64 for the best round of the week and a share of the lead with Harris English in the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii. Palmer thought he might have been in trouble with a thin fairway metal approaching the green on the par- 5 18th. It narrowly cleared native grass left of the green and rolled out to 12 feet, and he two-putted for birdie.

His score stood when rules officials determined there was no intent, and no penalty, when he tamped down a divot a few paces away from where his golf ball was rolling after a muffed chip on the ninth hole.

English wasn’t so fortunate with his second shot to the 18th. He was left and came up some 15 feet short of clearing the hazard. His only good break was that a marshal somehow spotted it. Instead of a third shot from 200-plus yards away, he hacked out to 80 feet away and took two tough putts for par and a 66.
