- Field Level Media

The Vancouver Canucks canceled practices and workouts Sunday out of an abundance of caution due to potential exposure of COVID-19.

The Canucks became the first Canadianbased team and fourth NHL club in three days to alter practice sessions due to coronavirus concerns. The Canucks, who are scheduled to open their season at Edmonton on Wednesday, said further updates about today’s practice would be announced later.

The Penguins canceled their training camp practice and scrimmage Saturday due to COVID-19 concerns.

The Stars canceled practice Friday after six players and two staff members recently tested positive for COVID-19. The Stars ultimately had their first two games of the season against the Panthers postponed. The Stars’ training facilities will remain closed for several days while further daily testing and contact tracing is conducted.

The Blue Jackets had several players miss practice Friday “out of caution and in accordance with NHL COVID-19 protocols.” LUNDQVIST RECOVERING FROM OPEN-HEART SURGERY >> Capitals goalie Henrik Lundqvist said he is recovering well after open-heart surgery this week to repair a condition that will prevent him from playing this season.

Lundqvist, who enjoyed huge success with the Rangers before signing with the Capitals in October, announced last week that he was scheduled to have surgery for a condition that was revealed after a physical led to further tests.

“Day 3. Surgery went really well. About 5 hours to get it all taken care of,” Lundqvist, 38, wrote on Twitter. “Really appreciate the great staff here at the Clevland Clinic. Last few days has been pretty crazy but feel like I’m in really good hands. Every day is a step in the right direction.”

DEVILS SIGN BRATT TO 2-YEAR DEAL >> The Devils have re-signed restricted free-agent forward Jesper Bratt to a $5.5 million, two-year contract. Bratt led the club in even-strength goals with 15 and set career highs with 16 goals and 101 shots last season. The Swede has 37 goals and 63 assists in 185 games.
