Nation must face white privilege issue

There is a silver lining to the insurgency on Jan. 6. The white rioters made it obvious that white privilege is so priceless they are willing to take down our democracy to retain it.

The election of Donald Trump after our first African American president, the white supremacists he has enabled, and finally the events of Jan. 6 clearly demonstrate to any thinking person that being white confers valuable but unearned rights.

We need to change that if we are to live up to our ideals of a democracy.
